Characteristics
From the Olivine family in gem quality it is composed in large quantities of magnesium. In the absence of impurities, its basic color is green due to its chemical composition of the same mineral and not impurities; this characteristic is not common in other gemstones. The brilliance of its green can be of greater or lesser intensity depending on the amount of iron in its composition.
On many occasions it is possible to be confused with other precious stones, even the emerald, when it is cut in a gem cut. Many emeralds from royal treasures throughout history have turned out to be peridots.
SYMBOLY: Legend has it that Cleopatra had peridot as her favorite gemstone. Napoleon swore his eternal love and admiration to Josephine using a peridot.
